Four Seasons Serengeti, Tanzania

Hello my dear travelers!!! How was your Valentine’s day? I hope your day was full of love and happiness!

Although this is not a Valentine’s post it is certainly a destination that I will fully recommend for a romantic getaway,  or as an adventure holiday with your bestie. So make sure to take notes and add this to your bucket list for this year.

After having explored Kenya for a month we moved to the neighboring country, wonderful Tanzania. Tanzania is a diverse country that I’m sure you have heard of since it is surrounded by famous places of unique beauty: the highest mountain in Africa: Kilimanjaro, Serengeti, incredible paradise islands like Zanzibar and Pemba, Lake Victoria and many more. I will be exploring many of these are places and I look forward to sharing this Tanzanian adventure with all of you.

Our first destination in wonderful Tanzania was the Serengeti, which is one of the most popular places in Africa for safaris. To get to the Serengeti we caught a flight from Coastal Aviation, which is the best domestic line to travel domestically in Tanzania. They have a flight from Nairobi to the Serengeti which only makes one stop at the border to get the visa.

The visa is valid for 3 months for a single entry which has a cost of $50 (USD). If I am not mistaken, almost all countries pay this except for Americans (100 $ USD). As for the park costs this varies on where you stay. The cost of the park is 50 $ (USD) per day, per person. But if you stay in a camp, you have to pay an additional fee of $30 (USD) per day and per person.

Our home during our Serengeti visit was Four Seasons. No doubt Robert and I were super excited to start our adventure in Serengeti at this great hotel. One of the rituals in any safari destination when they pick you up at the airport, is to serve delicious and refreshing local snacks. This depends on the hour but they always offer you juices, water, coffee, tea, biscuits, champagne or many more things before you even begin. What surprised me and Robert was to even have Wi-Fi in our safari car hahah.

When our driver pack all the refreshments and the suitcases he ask us if we wanted Wi-Fi? Just picture our faces to hear this. These are definitely the small details that makes you feel that you are in a Four Seasons hotel.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful in terms of its property and facilities. The area where the meals are taken is absolutely picturesque as it is in front of the pool and a watering hole, where you can watch elephants drinking water with a backdrop of the Serengeti park. The rooms are super spacious, they have tubs, private infinity pools and a view of the wild life which was one of our favourite spots to watch the sunsets.  Probably  this room have been one of the best rooms we have ever stayed since we almost never wanted to leave the room 🙂

Within our stay we wanted to try many of the activities of the hotel, apart from doing safari drives which are always a unique experience. We wanted to try out the spa which was absolutely one of the best massages we have ever had and also explore the discovery center. Yes, can you believe a discovery center in the hotel. How cool is that? Robert and me spent so much time in this place learning and seeing so much about the Swahili culture.

Another of the activities we try was the “Taste of Place”, which is a Swahili-style cooking class. To be honest I’m terrible at cooking according to my mother haha . She says I don’t even know how to make eggs but that’s a lie, but when she was young she owned a restaurant and clearly has very high standards. Being able to be back in the kitchen after many months of not cooking  I knew it would be something interesting and fun and it definitely was. Promise you guys I didn’t make a mess or burned the hotel hahaha

Our chef was so fun, kind and we definitely learn so much from him and his culture from a gastronomy perspective. We cooked a delicious chicken soup in the Swahili style. The truth is it was not as difficult as I thought and glad I did this fun experience!

To end our trip what do you guys think about a balloon safari? Yes, yes and absolutely yes !! You guys know I will never say no to  hot air balloon rides especially having recently done one in Kenya. Serengeti Balloon Safaris was the company with whom we did this in the Serengeti and once again it was an amazing experience as the views of Serengeti from on high are truly amazing and breathtaking.

I hope you enjoyed this post and thank you very much for reading. Make sure not to miss our Instagram takeover of the Four Seasons Serengeti account @fsserengeti.

Love,

Marcy

So tell me, after taking the cooking class, do you feel more comfortable cooking? It’s so cool that your mother owned a restaurant and I’m sure she’s an amazing chef. On another note, it looks like you enjoyed your stay in Tanzania. I have been enjoying all your Africa travels and pics and hope you have more to share!

  6. What an amazing place to stay! The Four Seasons is the gold standard so I’m not surprised you enjoyed so many wonderful experiences. A Swahili style cooking class sounds like fun! And the hot air balloon ride. That’s definitely on my bucket list. My parents went to Tanzania last fall and had a blast. I’ve got to go at some point too!

Your travel photos are always so inspirational to look at. Tanzania looks just as beautiful as Kenya and I’m so jealous that you got to travel to another spot just shortly after your trip to Kenya. 🙂 I hope to have the luxury to fit in more travel this year.

  10. First off, your photos are incredible! The Four Seasons there look and sound amazing. The infinity pool is something I have yet to have for my own room, but would absolutely love. I love cooking classes when I’m abroad, but I’ve only done it in Thailand. Definitely would love to do one when I finally visit. I will have to keep these in mind when I finally get to Tanzania!
