Secrets Papagayo, Costa Rica

Today I would like to interrupt my Caribbean series to share my experience in roadtrip of my beautiful pura vida country: Costa Rica.

In fact this past September 15th we celebrate 197 years of independence. Congratulations Costa Rica!

There’s many things I miss the most about my country: my family, friends, the culture, its people, its food, its beautiful beaches and the green destinations that gives my Instagram photos lol. One of my goals this year was to actually take the time to explore the country and not feel so much of a tourist in the place I was born.

When I landed in Costa Rica one of the first things I did was to make a list of the places I wanted to visit. Within that list I had making my second attempt to visit Peninsula of Papagayo, in Guanacaste

At the beginning of the year I stayed in Tamarindo, Guanacaste region in the house of one of my best friends where I got to know many beautiful beaches that I had no idea existed. However Guanacaste is a super large region that was not able to make it to Peninsula Papagayo. So, this time I was on a mission lol!

When I arrived to San Jose, the first thing I did was connect with a friend: Estefania Acuna @estefaniaacuna who I had not seen for years. The last time I saw this girl was around 3-4 years ago so this was the perfect excuse to meet and do a small roadtrip together.

After arriving from the Caribbean I spent a few days with my family and packed my bags again to escape to the northeastern part of the country starting with the Peninsula Papagayo, Guanacaste.

To talk a little about the Peninsula Papagayo or also known as the Gulf of Papagayo is on the north Pacific coast of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. It is a very popular destination not only because it is one of the most important tourist developments in the country but  also because it is where many celebrities come to vacation among them the famous Kardashians that recently where here.

Guanacaste is a very accesible region for tourists because you are able to land directly thru the second international airport of the country: Liberia Guanacaste. So, it’s perfect for those people who prefer to fly directly to Guanacaste without stopping in the capital: San José. You can also reach here by domestic flights or by car like we did it that took us around 4 hours from the capital San Jose.

During this trip we were going to stay in Secrets Papagayo from the Secrets Resorts chain who belongs to the chain AM Resorts. Secrets Resorts is famous for being for adults only and the perfect choice for those people looking for a luxury vacation in a decent price.

Secrets Papagayo offers 202 luxurious rooms and suites distributed throughout the properties with incredible views of the gardens or the Gulf of Papagayo. The rooms are quite modern, spacious and cozy. My room in particular was a panoramic bungalow type suite with a small balcony overlooking the sea.

I remember that every night at sunset time I always received a super yummy amenity including a sweet or salty snack with a drink to enjoy the golden magical hours from the balcony of my room.

Within my all-inclusive experience I had the opportunity to try the Unlimited-Luxury package that fulfilled all my wishes and exceed my expectations during my stay. To tell you more details about this package this includes:

  • Limitless access to gourmet à la carte dining options without reservations required
  • Unlimited international and domestic top-shelf spirit
  • Unlimited natural fruit juices and soft drinks
  • 24-hour room and concierge services
  • Pool and beach wait service
  • Daily refreshed mini-bar with soft drinks, juice, bottled water and beer
  • Daily maid service
  • Endless daytime activities and live nightly entertainment
  • Theme parties, oceanfront bars and entertainment venues
  • No wristbands required
  • All taxes and gratuities included
  • Enjoy free Wi-Fi and free international calling to the US, Canada and Mexico with Unlimited Connectivity

Secrets Papagayo has an incredible variety of options for international cuisine including four a la carte restaurants, buffet restaurant, one grill type and a cafeteria.

My favorite part of the hotel was the beach and the spa as it is one of the few photogenic areas of the property. Tefy and I had the opportunity to enjoy an hour of massage in one of their private and beautiful bungalows with sea view followed by a pedicure with the famous fish therapy.

Not sure if any of you have ever done this fish therapy but without a doubt it is something that I recommend you to do. Is not only because of the experience but also because it is very funny in terms of your feeling on your feets.

I want to thanks all the staff from Secrets Papagayo for making my stay in the Gulf of Papagayo super pleasant. Especially Marcela for all her hospitality and help during our stay.

Love,

Marcy
