Travel Diaries

Rio Celeste, Costa Rica

RC5

Hello Strangers!!! Sorry I have been so lost from the blogosphere. I was traveling and have been stuck with work lately.

But it’s never too late for a catch up right?

Today I’m very excited because am finally sharing another of my Costa Rica diaries post. This one in particular is super magical for me…. My visit to Rio Celeste, which for sure is my favorite from my Costa Rica trip.

If any of you are going to Costa Rica this is a MUST place to visit. Even if is not in your plans I recommend to make the time because I’m sure you will not regret going to this magical place.

I must say that never in my life I have been so excited to hike for three hours … YES 3 hours round trip.. But every minute was worth!! Its really amazing to see this with your own eyes.

Sure many of you saw my photos of Instagram and  also were unaware about this place as me. I discovered recently because my sister Pamela told me about it and I knew that for my next trip to Costa Rica this is something I had to do.

Many of you also asked if I used any filters on my photos from Rio Celeste and the truth is that of course I used as always LOL… but really the place looks very similar to my photos and is not artificial.

The watercolor is 100% natural and this is due to a chemical reaction with high concentrations of aluminum on the water that make it look blue as the sky. The legend in Costa Rica says that water has this color because when God finished painting the sky he washed the brushes in this river.

If you get to go to this place I recommend you do it with the package that Hotel Rio Celeste Hideway have. I think we paid about $ 80 for 2 and will include the guide, bottled water and fruit.

Addtional recommendations are:

  • Try to go early because the park close at 2pm and  they don’t let anyone in..
  • Bring comfortable tennis shoes or rubber boots. You can be rent the boots as I did. More advisable to rent the boots since theres a lot of mud and you wouldn’t have washed yours after.
  • Bring water, you will dehydrated a lot and your body will need it.
  • Take an umbrella or a rain cape as it is not sunny and the weather is usually mild and will probably rain or drizzle.
  • I recommend wearing a light weight jacket, even though you will be constantly moving you’ll stay warm but the weather is a bit cold.
  • Bring a pony tail to pick the hair in case you get hot.
  • Hike with caution as the road is super muddy and you can get easily slip or fall.
  • Obviously do not forget your camera.
  • After the walk I recommend you go to the hotel restaurant Hideway and give you a deserved meal because the food is delicious. Ask for the Chocolate Fondant as dessert!!

I hope you enjoyed this post!!!

Love,
