Diana Beach, Kenya- Africa

MarcyYu_Kenya_Diani6

Yes, yes and yes!!! It is exactly what my body says when it knows that I am going for sun, sea and sand. What can I say, I am Latin so I love the coast, and I was looking forward to reaching the beach after doing so many incredible safaris in Kenya.

As our last destination in Kenya, we visited the famous Diani beach. Yes, this was my first time in the Indian Ocean so you guys must imagine my emotion to feel the incredible and refreshing waters in my body. Finally, it was time to take my bikinis out of my suitcase that were buried in the bottom of many safari outfits lol

To get to Diani we grabbed a Safari Link flight which took about an hour and a half from Nairobi. Just to see the sea from the window of the plane I was super excited and anxious to touch the sand after almost 3 months. Since I got off the plane I do not know why the smell of the sea and the heat reminded me of my beautiful Panama (when I say hot it’s hot !!)

Afrochic is part of the Elewana Collection chain and was going to make our home for these days while visiting Diani. From the moment we entered the property we felt so embraced by the staff and that relaxed atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for. Afrochic is an intimate hotel that has only 10 rooms with their own bathroom and balconies overlooking the pool and the sea. Certainly I felt like home!

Compared to so many large chain hotels, Afrochic stands out with its unique and eclectic style in interior design and makes a refreshing change from the standard alternatives, with a really personalized and private service.

After doing so many safaris looking for big cats and rhinos, I would never imagine seeing camels on the beach! No doubt Kenya is a super lucky country to have so much beauty and amazing animals around it.

One of my favorite moments was definitely the picnic on the beach and the camel rides. Yes, it was also my first camel ride so that was something I really enjoyed. Our plan during our stay in Diani was to be able to visit Mombasa and be able to visit the famous markets but we weren’t able to go. We had to catch a ferry to be able to cross that way. Unfortunately, we were not able to get through the traffic and because there was also a strike that there was no ferries at that time. But that meant we can could spend more time relaxing and enjoy a beach life!

If any of you come to visit this area, I hope you can see it, I would love to know your experience of visiting the area!

I hope you have enjoyed my first experience in the Indian Ocean!!

Next Stop: Tanzania

Love,

M

  2. These photos are so dreamy. I have a few friends from Kenya and 10 years ago, they described it to me, and I thought it would be so lovely to visit. I’ve been saving African and South America on the list for a lengthy trip. These make me want to visit immediately! It sounded like an amazing, memorable trip!

I will never grow tired of seeing these incredible places you visit. I must say that this looks like my favorite spot, since I’m a huge fan of the beach! The water is so blue and the sand is so bright! It looks refreshing, that’s for sure! Also loving your maxi romper (I have the same one hehe)!
