Gondwana – Cape Town’s Best Safari Excursion

When I planned to visit South Africa, one of the things that topped my list was being able to experience a safari near Cape Town.

I wanted to see the animals behavior been so close to the sea. Robert and I had the opportunity to visit Gondwana located in the heart of the Garden Route, which is only four hours away by car from the Cape Town International Airport, along the picturesque Garden Route of South Africa.

The private park of Gondwana has 11,000 hectares which was previously a band and was acquired by the group to turn it into a Game Reserve. They will be able to experience a totally different safari and still be able to see the big 5 like we did. (lion, buffalo, elephant, rhinoceros and leopard).

In our case we rented a car from Durban to get to Gondwana since our plan was to drive to Cape Town later. If any of you go to South Africa I would recommend doing the same thing especially for this area that is super nice to explore by car.

The truth was quite easy to find the reserve of Gondwana since the roads are super prepared for road trips. When Robert and I arrived at Kwnea Lodge the Gondwana the truth is that the design captivated us a lot since the cabins look like mini spacecraft haha that makes it look in a super different way to what we have seen before, especially with the beautiful landscape background that the reservation offers.

The rooms are quite equipped with a fireplace, electric warmer for the bed for those cold nights, shower and bath with a stunning view to the reserve. It was very surprising for us to see how the zebras came closer to the cabins as if they were in their natural habitat. They were not even scared to see people as we have seen elsewhere.

When we went on safari we had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and we were a very varied group which made our safari rides even more fun. I have to say that the moment I took my photos with Robert, this was one of the most picturesque places to take pictures of the animals since from deep down you can see the sea. The vibe from the animals feels totally relaxed and not to mention the sunsets. The best sunsets I’ve seen in my life I’ve seen them on the African continent, but Gondwana tops my list because it really leaves me speechless.

Gondwana has a great variety of lodges in your reserve without doubt all offer something special and this n the one that we stayed Kwnea Lodge is one of the most accessible in price and certainly to enjoy a memorable safari experience.

I hope you enjoy the photos!

Love,

Marcy

With Animal Kingdom at Disney being the closest I’ve been to a safari this is definitely on top of my list! I’ve always thought of doing it in Kenya, but the Gondwana safari option in Cape Town is definitely a possibility too now that I’ve read your lovely review!

The closest I’ve ever been on a Safari is San Diego Wild Animal Park, and I ‘m pretty sure it doesn’t even compare to the real thing. The animals look so beautiful and it’s amazing to think that you saw all of the wildlife so up close!!

I would love to go on a safari one day and would want to stay here. The fireplace and room sounds so cozy. So beautiful! xoxo, Christine

It must be amazing to see these animals up close! I feel like the only place I am able to do this is the zoo but a safari sounds like an incredible experience 🙂
