Four Seasons Costa Rica, Peninsula Papagayo

As the saying goes we always leave the best for last. So I did!! The last destination I visit in Costa Rica before departing to Africa was Four Seasons Costa Rica with my parents to celebrate my mom’s birthday.

Actually I can’t’ remember when was the last time I went on a trip alone with my parents since we always did everything together as a family with my brothers. But if I remember correctly, I think the last time was when I went to Asia with my parents and my boyfriend back then (a long time ago). So, the idea of going with them excited me since I had not seen them for a while.

Bad surprise for me the day we were going to depart my dad told me he couldn’t come with us since something last minute came to the office and he need it to attend. So, my sister Vanessa took my dad’s place and with no plans we ended up doing a girls trip.

In one of my previous posts I talked about Peninsula Papagayo which is one of the most tourist areas of Costa Rica since it has become the last coastal retreat in Latin America. Home to four World Heritage sites certified by UNESCO.

Peninsula Papagayo has a dream like 1400-acre canvas of towering bluff tops, tropical forests and miles of uncrowded beaches tumbling out to the sea—all teeming with rare and magical wildlife.

Upon arriving at the property my mom, my sister and I were impressed by the beautiful views that the Four Seasons Costa Rica received us.  We arrived at the right time: full golden hour so the views of the coast with the tropical forest looked totally magical.

When we arrived all the staff  that attend us at Four Seasons knew about my mother’s birthday that every person did not miss congratulating her. If there’s one thing I love, it’s the attention to detail and the Four Seasons hotel chain certainly knows how to do it.

Room

Our room was a sky suite that had two double beds and a terrace that had a view of the jungle and part of the coast.  I love the rustic, modern decoration that assimilate the tropical landscape of the Peninsula Papagayo to create a relaxing atmosphere inside the room.

Upon entering the room we received a nice birthday card accompanied with some freshly baked cupcakes for my mother. Four Seasons Costa Rica had prepared everything for me to come with my parents. So, the room was prepared with the male bathrobes and slippers for my dad which my sister end up using lol.

Food

Four Seasons Costa Rica has a wide variety of restaurants to choose. To be exact from 5 different restaurants each one with an exquisite gastronomy proposal: Pesce, Anejo, La Reserva, Bahia and Nemare.

On our first night, my mother’s birthday night, we went to Pesce for Italian food with local seafood. We had a very nice and special evening since its been a while since I didn’t spent time with my mom and my sister after my intense travels these months. At the end of our evening the chef surprised us with a delicious, cute and small chocolate cake for my moms b-da  accompanied by the waiters singing. Its was truly a magical and special time for my mom.

As for the yummy  breakfasts we took these in Bahia. Which offer the option of buffet or à la carte. My favorites certainly were the waffles and the acai bowl. Bahia also offers lunch and dinner all day which has an open wood kitchen that is the centerpiece of this sophisticated restaurant, where the ingredients, from grilled prawns to blasted coffee, are locally sourced.

My mom’s favorite restaurant was Nemare specialized in meats where they use artisan ingredients from farms. This is located not in the main area of the hotel since you have to make reservations where a shuttle picks you up in the hotel lobby.

Activities

Four Seasons Costa Rica has some of the best 100 golf courses outside of the USA and they had planned for my dad to spend a day of golf in its famous and scenic courses. This really made me very sad not to have him with me on this trip because I knew he would enjoyed this so much. I guess I have to come back with him next time.

One of the things we enjoy was booking some beach cabanas where we sunbathe and relax in their beautiful beaches. I didn’t stay for long as the adventures call me. I went paddle boarding and snorkeling since its very tempting not to do it with the beautiful landscape that Peninsula Papagayo offers. Not to mention the clear and refreshing waters to appreciate the marine life.

As for the beaches Four Seasons Costa Rica has two beaches. Both very beautiful and with really beautiful waters: Playa Blanca and Playa Virador. From my drone shots you can see that this is truly a beautiful tropical paradise.

I want to thank Four Seasons Costa Rica and Danielle for such a nice experience together with my family and make my mom’s birthday so special.

Love,

Marcy
