Interior Design Travel Diaries

Portobelo, Panama

On my list of my 2016 resolution I had listed to explore more about the country I lived. So this is how my year started exploring more about Panama. I did this trip with  Robert, friend and director of the Culture and Travel magazine. Which was his first time in the Latin America Region.

Many of you could seen on my Instagram or Snapchat the tour we made all around Panama and which I will be telling you guys each destiny as separately. We visited so many great places from beaches to mountains, from the caribbean side until de pacific side. To begin our tour we started in Portobelo and yes we went all over to the other side… But really we went to  El otro Lado ( The other Side)  which is the name of the hotel. A hotel from the Design Hotels chain which is the only one from Central America region.

Unique for its exquisite art collection, colors, arquitecture  fashioned into a “Congo Art Chic” far from the jungles of Africa. Literally translated as “The Other Side” in the multicolor property located on an island across from the UNESCO-listed fortified town of Portobelo on the Caribbean side of Panama. Originally designed as a series of homes for the Eleta family. The property is set amongst steaming rainforests amid luscious vegetation with the mere sound of wildlife.

El Otro Lado’s extraordinary collection of art works and photography, both collected and original  have mostly been picked up on the travels of the owner. While African art is the most abundant in the property, theres a combination of retro and modern artworks of all shapes and sizes as well. Each detail around the hotel makes each corner more cozy that Robert and me where stunned  about the music they play in the rooms which were such a great selection until the gorgeous dishes where they served the food.

Something I loved from El Otro Lado is the attention and the difference and personalized guide tours they offer to the beaches or jungle. Most of you were surprised like me to find out how clear is the ocean water from Portobelo. One of my favorite by far was the  romantic boat tour in the jungle during sunset time with the moon as a backdrop and a bottle of champagne and a tasty Caribbean mango ceviche.

If you are really looking for a hotel or private retreat by far you must go to El Otro Lado. From the first day I stayed I felt so relax and inspired with the beautiful colors and arquitecture.

Thank you for keep reading me and stay tuned for more details about the must visit places all around Panama.

PD:  You guys must take the train to Colon which you can take from Albrook  (Panama Canal Railway) passing through lush rainforests, cruising alongside the Canal’s locks, through the historic Gaillard Cut and gliding over slender causeways in Gatun Lake. Is such a wonderful experience and not to mention that the train itself in the inside is so beautiful.

Love,

Xx
